After day 38 we had a rest day on a great campsite near Chenonceau Chateau. It is a beautiful building on a bridge over the river Cher. It has stood for hundreds of years so managed to withstand Sean and Mark paddle boarding into into it. Luckily Hooner didn’t get down as far as the chateau so we will never know just how well ir was built. It was good to do not much and charge the batteries. The boys did a little degustation but were better pleased with finding a bargain with a local producer.

So day 39 we are back to Amboise to start over again. Sean and Steve have taken leave of their senses and agreed to join me for another day. We head out to Amboise for Tours, first stop was just the far side of Tours where Passepartout and Passeparthree made us some breakfast- cracking.
Day 38 showed the cracks in Betsy’s facade. She has had a hard time of it and I can’t change gear fast enough to maintain momentum on her. There are some hills over the next 2 days so I have switched to Harry -the spare. I will hopefully finish on Betsy but for the next couple of days it is Harry.
I did the section of the route from Orleans to Angers a few years ago with Katy. As I go through some parts I remember them and can sometimes recall what is coming up. Weird the power of memory. I recall taking a photo of us beside a giant bottle of wine just outside Tours but we don’t see it on the route- maybe they have changed it. Eventually just 75 kms wrong, we come across it just outside Saumur and I get a new photo of me and the boys there.
when we do get to Saumur, the boys have gone ahead to book in to a cracking campsite there on the river. As usual, it is full! So we manage to get a spot on the glorified car park next door. We have done 105 kms in the heat. Hi five to Sean and Steve who did not sign up for that distance but stuck it out and are hanging.
I have some good photos but poor Wi-Fi so I will try to add them later!🙄
