EV6 day 32

A great relaxing rest day. We had a lovely campsite with good facilities- for some strange french reason that did not include toilet seats! However it is Sunday and France so the kitchens are closed. We get lucky, we have seen a sign so stroll 2 kms down the road to the golf club- and restaurant- they have a competition on so only have a set menu but we are welcome for lunch. 3 courses for €20 – not bad! The campsite continues our river trend and is by the Loue river.

Monday morning I am up and off early. I am keen to chip away the remaining kms now. I start from where I left off in Damparis at the Post Office. It is a fine morning. I make good time and soon come upon a large EV6 sign – they are so well signposted now- that tell me I only have another 82 kms to go to reach Charon-sur-Saone, that is my destination for today, great. We have followed the Doubs, the Loue, and now the Saone, another 2 days until we hit the Loire. My first stop is at Seure. A great place by the river and I have bitten off a big chunk of the day, 40 kms, I nicked a few by straightening a couple of curves, avoiding the river and going direct to the next village. I have seen enough river now so direct is better!

next I pass the confluence of the Saone and Doubs rivers. It is marked on a sign on the bridge and the water is very wide there. Kids are canoeing as a group and having great fun. Is this school??
All so quickly I reach Allerey-sur-Saone, the official end of this leg. Bizarrely it’s halfway along a field! So I have to backtrack to the village and find Passepartout for a fine salad lunch. Careful, I am eating healthily, not like me. A quick feed and I only have 20 kms left to do. I am finished just after 2pm. There is always a sting in the tail. I am now in the town of Charon-sur-Saone, so I have to get a lift to the campsite another 5 kms away – I have a policy decision that I am not cycling lots of dead kms unless it is absolutely unavoidable.
campsite is good and we are there unusually early so can set up and relax. Wi-Fi continues to be awful so I still can’t upload photos. I will try later.
