It is a beautiful Sunday morning in Austria. The sun is shining and it’s glorious. I watch an older gentleman on the campsite as he settles down to drink his coffee in the cafe and work his way through the paper. I am envious. As I load my bike up for the start, I realise he is probably younger than me- who has got this right?!

leaving the campsite.
It is quieter on the cycle ways today, the Austrians seem to take the day of rest more seriously. There are families out on bikes and some long distance trailers but gerenerally. It is much more quiet. I have a favourable tail wind and I take the opportunity to stop for a coke in a local cafe- luxury. The narrow gorge continues to be beautiful, but when it widens out, it is quite boring.
We drive through a small village and amazing – 2 classic cars! A Herbie VW beetle, and a Triumph Spitfire. Both are in very good condition – you wouldn’t expect to find a spitfire in Austria!

We get to Linz. It is a beautiful city. As we approach on the cycle route we come in past. It’s Avonmouth. Heavy industry is alive and well here!
we finish the ride and head out to our campsite about 11 kms further on outside the city. It is a pub with campsite accommodation. Sounds right up our street. However, the trip gods continue with some fun. The site is good. It has good showers, washing facilities and is attached to an indoor and outdoor tennis courts. However, since the pandemic they have been unable to make the pub pay and both restaurant and pub are closed. So we have managed to find and book into a pub with no beer!!!

The gods were kind hearted and there was a lovely village only 1 km away where we found a pizzeria in the square and ate with the locals.
