EV6 day 13

In theory, it’s an easy day today, short ride Across the border into Hungary and finishing 79 km in Mohacs. But we don’t want to do that. We have 132 km to do the day after next , so we decide to nibbles some kms off on the short day. They have built some terrific new roads in Croatia. Unfortunately, they have a habit of just stopping randomly. I got caught on that one again today, a fabulous new road just ended and turned into what appeared to be a footpath very steep hill. However, crossing the border in the Schengen area was much nicer. We went straight through an abandoned border post.
we got to Mohacs without much incident really then we had to get the ferry across to the other side of the Danube. Like most of the ferries we’ve come upon on this trip. It doesn’t go very often. We have to sit and wait as is the way here until the ferry comes back for us. Ironically, in a country that has adopted the euro the ferry clerk is most reluctant to accept the euro, and all prices are in Hungarian Florent. That seems to be the way here.
We nick about 20 kms off tomorrow’s route and finish the ride place called Szermle. We then drive off to a campsite we found further up near tomorrow’s stop. It’s pretty basic, but has all the things you need, including for the first time, unlimited hot water in the showers what a luxury. Its location is terrific right by the river, and probably at this time of year is usually hot and happy. As usual by the time we get there, it is cold beginning to rain and not at its best. There did manage to be some hardy mosquitoes around who dined well on me and Passepartout. We spent most of the night, listening to the hammering of the rain on the roof of the campervan, deep joy and a sign of things to come!
