Day 4- back into romania

Down to breakfast in a nice hotel. Coffee machine broke and fruit was mouldy- well it is Bulgaria! Staff were good though and we got a reasonably early start. I had cycled past the bridge to the border last night so we took the van up to get across. Not too bad a queue, stamp the passports, check out the van for stowaways, and we are clear. Off the bridge and back on the bike. A pretty straightforward run 90 odd kms to Lisa.
Now, by day 4 in the saddle a gentleman’s nether regions are under significant pressure. I fine tuned the angle of my seat and ‘gelled up’. I just needed a straight run and a good road surface. However, the EV6 was determined to show me the cultural centre of the very nice town just over the bridge, Giorgio. The route took me around its beautiful old centre – over the cobbles- and if this wasn’t bad enough the road out of town had been roughed up to resurface. For those of you who are Viz readers, it was like a sketch from Nobby’s Piles!

A pretty flat and uninspiring stretch today but so good to get the legs working, and I made some new friends along the way.

Not a good one of the horse and cart. They fly around at speed like boy racers but are a bit quick for me to photograph.

Day flew by but nowhere to stay. Then we got lucky and found a campsite that should have been closed but opened up. A real find. English speaking son who runs the place was in Bulgaria on holiday but mama let us in, conversed in pidgin, as did we, gave us a beer and showed us instructions in English. A shower, still cold! Electrical hook up, and when the son came back, they sold us a meal- with local hooch thrown in – that seems to be a given. Result- things are looking up.
